I’ve ridden a few times in my life. I am far from an expert and it was always with an instructor. But you hold onto the reins. You steer the horse through it. This way the horse knows you are in charge. I also never said it is to hold her up. But those have a bit. (Celestia here doesn’t). That is the metal rod that goes behind their teeth in their mouth. The saddle also lacks stirrups, since Celestia would lower herself to let her off her back. To me this is the middle ground of them working together.

Gah! Autocowreck strikes again! That’s supposed to read “I was specifically referring to the headgear.”

To clarify -
I can’t actually ride horses (bad back), so I might be mistaken, but I was under the impression that one did not grab the reins to hold on - just to give (usually) gentle direction to the horse - this being because they don’t understand it when you say something like “umm… let’s go over that way” and point. You stay in the saddle with your balance, stirrups, and legs. Also, Celestia would not buck, bolt, or spook, so…
Note that I wasn’t intending to say that Celestia wouldn’t carry her, or use a saddle to do so. I wasn’t specifically referring to the headgear.

Yeah… I just find it hard to believe that Celestia would consent to the reins… or that the other princess would try to put them on her, especially considering they would have been carrying on a conversation.
Otherwise… nice!
