“Are those what I think they are?” Sunny asked, a look of awe in her eyes.
“They are indeed!” Izzy said. “We’ve come back in time to Equestria more than 60 million years ago! Or it seems that way.”
“That’s a really long time,” Misty said. “These guys ruled the planet long before ponykind even stepped hoof on the ground. To actually see some in the flesh, so to speak-it’s incredible.”
“I wonder if a T-Rex will show up!” Sunny joked.
Izzy smiled. “Welcome to the Cretaceous Kingdom.”
After my previous tribute to Sam Neill proved to be a bit obscure, I decided I would create a piece based on a more famous movie in which he appeared. This scene references the moment when Alan Grant and his colleagues see the sauropods in Jurassic Park for the first time-a moment which still blows my mind to this day. I thank that movie for my life-long interest in dinosaurs, and for many of us Alan Grant was our introduction to archaeology.
Rest in peace, Sam Neill.
