There is something about this story that has kept me from listening to it. The idea of a dangerous journey to make a great sacrifice galls and depresses me. Unless she was the first somehow, that seems like the sort of thing that should have an honor-guard and Ponies lined up in towns and the entrances to farmsteads to bow o give honor to those willingly going to maim themselves to buy twelve divided by five (if I recall correctly) more hours of life for the planet.
Thus I must ask: does the bucket appear in the opera you are composing?
